Get to Know – Rachael & Richo (O’Neills On the Bus Go Round & Round)

Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to become a full-time traveller?

We were living on the peninsula in Melbourne, entering our 3rd lockdown & sick of the day-to-day routine, Richo was sick of only spending 2hrs a day with his children.

How do you balance work and travel on the road? Any productivity tips for those considering a similar lifestyle?

Richo works to save enough money for the next leg of our travels, we have stopped twice in 2 & a half years, we had to pull up for work a bit earlier than expected due to a lot of money being spent on maintenance for the bus.

What type of work do you do while travelling, and how did you transition to a remote or mobile career?

Rachael is a stay at home kid wrangler and Richo is an electrician with a mining background. He never struggles to find work, there are so many options around Australia.

Can you highlight some of your favourite destinations and memorable experiences from your travels?

Our favourite spots are point Lowly SA or the entire York peninsula, Haliday Bay, Yeppoon, Archer River Cape York, Darwin/Jabiru, Nana Glen, Karratha.

Have you faced any challenges working on the road, and how did you overcome them?

No real challenges, main issue is Richo missing the kids and all of us missing being together. But it's always a great reminder of why we're doing this.

What essential items or tools do you carry with you to make working while travelling more efficient?

We are quite fortunate living in a bus. We have heaps of room, so Richo is able to carry a lot of tools and equipment with him, there isn't much we don't have. Which is also great because he's been able to help so many people along our journey

How do you stay connected with your community and maintain a support system while constantly on the move?

FaceTime is a lifesaver.

What advice do you have for individuals who are considering a full-time travelling lifestyle but are hesitant to take the plunge?
